Now the judges have paid their visit we need to start thinking of next year...
We will need to sort out exactly what to do in the Car Park. We have £100 kindly donated by the Church which we were going to use for a cast iron planter in the Car Park. We are advised that cast Iron would be vulnerable to theives so may have to consider either using a recycled planter from a larger organisation like Oxford Parks or perhaps planting fruit trees either side of the entrance with wildflower underplantings.
We need also to address what we will do in Mansle Gardens and will be arranging a meeting with 'neighbours' to the Gardens to discuss the best way forward here. We are advised by Nigel Adams (champion Hedge layer) that the hedges will need to be replaced to be laid properly but of course this is contentious and has issues in itself.
There are discussions to be had about the Community Orchard Idea as well. OCCA (Oxfordshire Chilterns Community Action) are forming the Watlington Scrumpers to pick fruit in the area and then sell juice and other products made from the fruit. There is also the possibility to be discussed of an orchard in Cuxham. If anyone knows of any land that would make a suitable orchard in Watlington then do please let us know.
There is also more work to be done on the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Garden at the Icknield Community College so we will not be idle hands in the coming months.
